Apparently when people are called upon to face certain realities that contradict what they already believe they know, the phenomena known as 'cognitive dissonance' occurs. People do not like to admit that the content of what they have learned is not valuable or truthful. Nor do they like to face the harsh reality that they may have been "had", or "conned". So rather than re-order their belief system to accommodate the new information, they simply disassociate themselves from it, and from the unpleasant tension it creates. Even in the face of overwhelming evidence to support that new information.

It occurs to me, that the (so called) 'elites' in our societies, operate from exactly such psychological perspectives. Being fully aware of the fact, that most people cannot handle the responsibility that comes with discovering the way in which the world is truly ordered. They therefore provide us with a variety of mechanisms, by which we can retreat from such conflicts. Sports, soap operas, porn, drugs, music, gadget lust, reality television etc. You simply pick your poison, push your buttons, and off you go, forgetting about the troubles that rage daily in the world around you, and within you. "Give up, and give in, and we will make you feel safe" is their endlessly repeated cry, and boy is it effective.

The Romans referred to this as 'Bread and circuses', and such 'offerings' and entertainments, proved very effective at placating the discontent of ordinary people. Today we have the most effective implementation of these devices of control in the whole of human history. Personalised and digitised, honed to the very nuance of your psychological profile, every little kink ironed flat, by the all-seeing eyes of our modern masters.

My point? Exercise a little caution over your addictions my friends. Control your ears and eyes with at least a modicum of discipline. Reflect upon those things that contradict or invade your zones of comfort and psychological safety. They don't call it 'programming' for nothing you know!

See you on the flip side!
